The Eastern Mountain Sports, Double Down Crown has been awarded!
Congratulations to all who took the challenge to win the first ever Double Down Crown, the two-day stage race for the Hampshire 100 Multi-Sport Festival Weekend. On Saturday morning, Bilal Zia of Maryland, Tom Page of Maine, Brook Burke of Stoddard and Dale Guinn, the hometown favorite from Greenfield, NH, all lined up with 75 other runners for the first annual Highbush Half-Marathon trail race. After Stage I, the standings were:
Dale Guinn 2:17::27
Bilal Zia, 2:24:55
Brook Burke, 2:39:59
Tom Page, 2:52:20
With less than an 8 minute lead, not much going into a 100K mile ride where anything can happen, Dale Guinn began his mountain bike journey the next day. In the end, the first bib number to round the turn into Oak Park on Sunday afternoon was worn by Dale. Tom Page, riding a singlespeed(!) made a push for the lead but with a strong finish that moved him up to second place in the overall standings. Bilal rounded out the podium in 3rd place.

NEXT!
Next up in the Granite State Trail Race Series is the amazing Kismet Cliff Run. After a mile jaunt around Echo Lake you start to climb, and when we say climb, we mean "On Belay!" Runners can take the classic 5 mile course or for those who live for punishment, take the Red Ridge Trail onto the Beast of the East course for more than 4,000 feet of climbing in 14 miles. Supplemental oxygen not allowed.
